Dana Cowin

Together we can make the world a more hospitable place through transformative conversations and meaningful actions.

Former Editor in Chief of Food & Wine, Dana Cowin is an innovator in media, food and sustainability.

Dana is an award-winning editor, author, podcast host and convener who creates change through food, gathering, conversation and community.

During her 21 years as Editor in Chief of Food & Wine Magazine, guiding all aspects of the publication, she grew from a non-cook and mildly curious eater into an avid believer in the power of food to bring joy, connection and transformation.

Dana launched Progressive Hedonist to encourage people to reimagine pleasure within the framework of what is truly sustainable for themselves and the planet.

Dana is sharing her journey and insights at events around the country, on social media and on a podcast to create a movement of Progressive Hedonists. Dana believes that by beginning to source sustainably, reduce waste, eat and cook with more regenerative foods, we will break free of the bonds of climate doom and paralysis and mudge us towards ever more significant actions that can help create a future for those we love.

Before Progressive Hedonist, Dana founded Speaking Broadly, which featured a podcast, zine and events series highlighting visionary women at the intersection of creativity, sustainability and food. Through Speaking Broadly's consultancy, Dana coached creatives and advised growing companies on food and storytelling.

Dana is a sought-after public speaker. She has been a judge on Top Chef and Beat Bobby Flay as well as a speaker at SXSW, the Welcome Conference, TEDx Talk, and many other events.

She has a longstanding commitment to empowering people in marginalized communities through improving access to food and education. She's on the board of Food Education Fund and Hot Bread Kitchen, as well as the Food Council of City Harvest and God’s Love We Deliver.
